Built in 1904, Rhodes Hall was originally the home of Rhodes Furniture founder Amos Rhodes. Today it is a historic house museum, an event venue and headquarters for The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation.
In 2011, The Georgia Trust applied to the Grants to Green program for assistance in a sustainable rehabilitation of Rhodes Hall. Grants to Green is a partnership between Southface, The Kendeda Fund and The Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta which gives metro Atlanta nonprofits the opportunity to construct or renovate healthy workplaces that are energy and water efficient. The ultimate goal of the program is to assist local nonprofits in reducing their environmental impact and their operating costs, therefore freeing up resources to be invested directly in programs and services. Southface performed an assessment of Rhodes Hall and made recommendations on best practices in sustainability as well as cost-effective energy-, water- and resource-efficient upgrades.
In the fall of 2012, The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation received funding from Grants to Green to implement recommendations that were made during the assessment. The Trust is currently using these funds to install an efficient HVAC system and to upgrade insulation in the basement and attic.
