Southface Institute’s impact on sustainability is broader than individual buildings. Working collaboratively on comprehensive community plans and engagement, we improve sustainability, resilience, affordability, mobility, and environmental health so that communities grow and everyone thrives. We advise on all aspects of sustainable community development, including energy efficient buildings, transportation, clean energy plans, and more, with a focus on solutions that work for the benefit of all.
Leading Sustainable Community Development
Southface provides technical expertise to activate national sustainability initiatives locally, like the Bloomberg American Sustainable Cities Initiative and the Atlanta Better Buildings Challenge funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). We are technical partners for many U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) and Priority Climate Action Plans (PCAPs).
Crafting Municipal Clean Energy Plans
Many US states, including Georgia, require each certified government to have a comprehensive community plan to qualify for funding. We work with county and city planning firms and departments to develop community engagement plans to ensure that sustainability is incorporated in a way that’s community-driven and focused on tangible outcomes.
Supporting Clean Transportation
Southface hosts Clean Cities Georgia, a nonprofit that serves as a connector for fleet conversions, grant assistance, and community outreach to advance clean transportation adoption. It was founded in 1993 as the first Clean Cities and Communities National Partnership with U.S. Department of Energy’s Vehicle Technology Office.
