As Program Manager for the Advanced Commercial Buildings Initiative (ACBI), Laura facilitates the research, development, testing and deployment of processes and tools related to the small commercial marketplace. Building on the successes of the Grants to Green, Atlanta Better Buildings Challenge and EarthCraft Light Commercial programs, ACBI brings cost-effective tool-kits for deep energy retrofits and new construction commercial projects 50,000 square feet and smaller. Laura also supports the Southface residential team through educational outreach and project management.
What brought you to Southface? I met Jeff Tiller, Southface co-founder, during my undergraduate studies at Appalachian State University and he connected me to the Southface Atlanta office. (At the time there was also an office in Boone, NC.) The ability to work on market-rate and affordable transformative green building was, and still is, very inspiring.
What drives your passion for the built environment? Everyone interacts with the built environment and buildings have big impacts on people and the natural environment. We can make those impacts beneficial or harmful; I’d like to see them be beneficial.
What do you enjoy most about your job? The people I work with are amazingly smart, fun and energetic, and we get to do meaningful work.
What do you like to do when you are not at work? Play with family and friends, and garden, cook and eat food.
