What can a Grants to Green grant do for your organization? Just ask the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta (MJCCA), who just received a $30,000 check! The boost to their budget came in the form of a rebate from the Georgia Power Commercial Energy Efficiency Program.
Ongoing savings from energy and water efficiency will allow them to take the excess cash that they would have used on utility bills and put it to use for more programs for the community.
Account manager with Georgia Power, Rosheata McClain, presented the substantial sum to the CEO of the MJCCA, Jared Powers, on Wednesday, June 15.
“The Grants to Green Campus Grant allowed us to bring in Carrier Corporation, which installed our state-of-the-art HVAC controls system,” explained Powers. “This initiative furthered the MJCCA’s commitment to transform how our agency operates and delivers services, establishing the MJCCA as a strong environmental steward and leader in the community.”
“We are grateful to the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta,” said Rick Murphy, MJCCA’s Director of Facilities. “As a direct result of the Grants to Green Campus Grant that the MJCCA received, we were able to ‘green’ the buildings, site and operations at our Zaban Park campus, helping us to maintain environmental sustainability.”
“Additionally, we are appreciative of Georgia Power’s Commercial Energy Efficiency Program for the recognition and presentation of the rebate that the MJCCA received as a result of the HVAC control system we installed,” said Murphy. “Georgia Power’s commercial rebate program made incorporating energy efficient improvements into the MJCCA more affordable.”
The Grants to Green program is a partnership between the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, The Kendeda Fund and Southface that seeks to provide nonprofits in the Atlanta area with the technical assistance and funding necessary to implement energy and water saving building upgrades. As a vast majority of nonprofits are housed in inefficient buildings largely in need of repair, Grants to Green focuses on making it easier for the staff of nonprofits to have healthy, efficient workplaces in order to focus on their mission, constituents and communities.
